PCT Day 44: Mile 766.3 to 784.3

June 15th, 2018

Today we hiked over Forester Pass, the highest point on the PCT at 13,200 ft. The views were beautiful–snowy mountains, lakes, waterfalls. The ascent was mostly snow free (south side), but the descent had a lot of snow (north side). The switchbacks were completely covered in snow, so we put our microspikes on and went straight down the mountain until we could find the trail again. They say to do the passes in the morning because you are less likely to posthole. We didn’t get to the pass until after 4pm, but it wasn’t really an issue. We also crossed 5+ big streams today. By the 3rd crossing we realized it is safest to just walk right through with our shoes on. We are now in Kings Canyon National Park. Our 2nd national park of the PCT.
